Leonardo DiCaprio stars in this imaginative thriller directed by Christopher Nolan as a thief who specialises in stealing information from his victims as they sleep - by entering their dreams. But he also has a secret buried in his own subconscious, as he struggles with feelings of guilt following the death of his wife.

Dream a little dream

Widely-praised mega-hit Inception was nominated for eight Oscars and won four. It's another success for Christopher Nolan, who also directed The Dark Knight, and deservedly so.

Inception matches its original storyline, involving a corporate thief played by Leonardo DiCaprio who enters the dreams of his victims, with equally imaginative visuals. Anything can happen in a dream and, with modern special effects, more or less anything can happen in a movie. But the trick is to make it look convincing, and that's what Nolan achieves.

Slightly less impressive is the sub-plot involving the death of DiCaprio's character's wife and his attempts to shed his guilt over her death. There's a mystery here - did he kill her? - and while it's adequately explained, it doesn't quite pack the emotional punch it should.

Verdict

The Good:
A many-layered storyline keeps the viewer on their toes and never fails to be exciting. Match that with stunning dreamscape visuals and you're in for a treat.
The Bad:
The shoot outs and car chases somehow seem less exciting when you know the whole thing is taking place in a dream rather than reality.
Conclusion:
A Hollywood blockbuster with brains.
