Norman Osborne meets his Waterloo at Asgard

The Marvel universe has been through a series of historic changes including the civil war that pitted hero against hero and ended with the rise of evil maniac Norman Osborne as head of security across the USA. Siege is when the heroes finally get the chance to fight back, as Osborne overreaches himself by attacking Asgard.

As such, it's the culmination of years of storylines and should be required reading for Marvel fans.

There's certainly plenty of action and a satisfying end to the Osborne saga. We also get to see the start of a new chapter for the Avengers, as the likes of Thor, Captain America and Iron man reunite to take Osborne down.

What let's the story down is the choice of Asgard as the site for the final confrontation. Unless you're a big Thor fan, it's hard to care about the fate of this mythical city. One of Marvel's great strengths has been its willingness to set stories in the real world (or something that looks a bit like it) and this groundbreaking event could have benefited from a more down to earth setting.

Verdict

The Good:
A tale years in the making, this story wraps up numerous storylines and is required reading for Marvel fans.
The Bad:
Previous "event" storylines such as the Civil War series had plenty to offer hardcore fans and casual readers alike. But Siege is one for the fans - if you are new to Marvel, don't start here.
Conclusion:
Yes, it's a good tale. We just hoped for more from the epic ending to a storyline that's lasted for years.
